Bangalore (BBMP) Sanitation worker commits suicide after not being paid for 6 months

Subramani, a 40 year old corporation worker in Bengaluru commits suicide after he was not paid his work salary for the past six months.

Subramani from Muneshwara Block, Palace Guttahalli was a loyal sanitation worker at Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for the past 15 years.

Subramani’s relatives criticized BBMP’s Health Inspector as well as Solid waste management, Assistant Executive Engineer regarding the non-payment of his work dues for the past 6 months.

Before committing suicide subramani wrote a note in that he had specifically mentioned that he did not have money to afford food for his family. He had been asking BBMP for a release of his pending dues but no one was bothered to listen to his pleas.

Subramani lived with his two kids Pavitra (10), Darshan (7) and his wife Kavita. Their two kids are dropped out from the school in June because of school fee problem.

Subramani’s wife Kavita who was a home maker said, “He was dejected as our two children had recently discontinued school owing to not being able to pay fees of Rs 6000,”

After Subramani’s death, the sanitation workers protested at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office demanding the release of their dues.
